As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what made this year so special at the South Shore YMCA Nature Center.
As Brittany Greene, one of our Environmental Educators, recently shared:
“Every day as an environmental educator with the South Shore YMCA Nature Center, I find myself surrounded by curious minds ranging in age from toddlers to teens, each bringing their own energy and wonder to the forests, trails, and habitats we explore together. Whether I’m guiding a group of homeschoolers through the changing colors of our trails, helping scouts earn a merit badge, or watching a toddler’s first encounter with a turtle, I’m reminded that nature is the best classroom and that my role is more than just teaching—it’s about inspiring connection. Through local traditions, hands-on environmental topics, and the simple magic of outdoor discovery, I see kids grow more confident, compassionate, and aware of the world around them, and in turn, they teach me to appreciate the lessons that only mud puddles, birdsongs, and getting outdoors can offer. This constant exchange of knowledge and wonder fuels my passion and makes me genuinely excited to step into each new day, knowing that every program is not just a learning opportunity for them, but for me too, and that the work we do together is planting seeds for a more connected and caring future.”
We are grateful to the students, families, schools, and community groups who joined us throughout the year. Your curiosity and enthusiasm inspire our work every day. Here’s to a new year filled with continued exploration, growth, and the joy of discovering nature!
